I'm currently taking 3600 mg of Neurontin each day. This is the maximum recommended dose so I'm maxed out on this. It has controlled 80% of my pain with manageable side affects now that I'm not working.
My PM doc, who I've only seen once, said I should use the oxys that I had left over from surgery for breakthrough pain. A month ago I was taking half a pill maybe once a week. Now I'm doing this 2-3 times a week and that supply is almost gone.
So tomorrow I will be calling to get an appt with the PM. What I was wondering is what meds do you go to when Neurontin isn't cutting it? Did you stop the neurontin and switch to something else or just add something? I think I have advanced past this being occasional breakthrough pain.
I know that this decision will be up to the PM doc. My neurologist has pretty much quit on me. When I asked him what next he threw up his hands. So I'm not looking for someone to write a script for me but I'm curious to know what others have tried and how it worked. That way when the PM doc says "do this" I will be able to ask questions.
Thanks guys. I really appreciate you sharing your experiences with me. I will admit that I am a novice when it comes to meds. I've been lucky up until now.
