New neurosurgeon appt. put off for 3 weeks :(

So I had an appointment yesterday for this new neuro. It was canceled because he was called in to a trauma, and I can't get in to see him for 3 weeks :(

I do really want his opinion, but dang.

Boo hoo.

  • Sorry HB,

I've had that happen twice, and both times my NS had to do emergency surgery. Did you ask them to put you on a 'short call' list so if someone cancels you can get in sooner? Bummer for sure.

  • Is it just me or is this journey measured by time in between appointments with one specialist, doctor, therapist, or another? Then they throw off your whole time system by doing this!

    I so understand your frustration.

How much notice did they give you? (Not that I begrudge the person who had the trama mind you!)

When you do get there, there will probably be a sign that says something about a charge for no shows or appointments that are not canceled at least 24 hours in advance. Those always puzzle me. If I don't show for my appointment or cancel I won't see the sign. How will I know there is a charge?

Just a ramble for a moment to take your mind off it I suppose.
  • They did not give me much notice- but I will give this office credit for warning that this might happen, while other offices do not, and for putting me on the cancellation list without asking.

But you guys know how it is- you kind of look forward to seeing a new doctor, it's a little bit of excitement and hope in your life ;)

Sad in a way isn't it? We get excited (and we do!!) to see a new doctor that *might* shed some final light as to what can be done, and what is going on. That alone isn't normal! (G) I fully agree with this statement of yours. :)

  • Hi happyhb,
I havent had this happen yet, but it has to be very frustrating, like Brenda said when you feel like you have a new doctor who might shed some light on your spine problems and they might be able to help you. Well I hope the next 3 weeks do not drag on and that your appt will be here before you know it. I know that is a lame thing to say to people like us, because evryday is a new adventure for us, now I am rambling, anyway I feel for you!! Take care, Lela

I know how disappointed you must be. I know how much you were looking forward to seeing the new NS. If you're like me I always have my hopes built up so high that 'this one' will 'fix' this or at least try to help and then I feel deflated when it doesn't work out.
I hope the time passes quickly for you and that nothing happens to postpone your appt again.

I would look at it this way. If the doctor was called to a trauma then he must be good. You can also look at as if you have a trauma then it will be nice to know this doc will be there for you. Its disappointing playing the waiting game and I think all of us have been there that have multiple issues at one time or another. I hope they can get you in before 3 weeks
