Staples out on Monday hopefully

Monday will be first post op doctor visit, 17 days since double fusion. The pain and pins and needles feelings in my backside (butt) and tops of my thighs in back continues. Most pain is right below the incision, but the incision itself and staples feel no pain at all.
I am wondering if the staples could be causing nerve pain and that maybe when removed I will have some relief. If not, I hope that there is some shot or something that will stop the nerve endings from hurting all day like a sunburn that someone keeps rubbing sandpaper over. If I did not have that problem, I would not have any pain at all, and life would be a lot easier. Fingers are crossed for tomorrow.
Everyone have a great weekend. :)

  • Hope that you will feel more comfortable once you have had your staples out on Monday.

The nerve pain that you are experiencing is quite common and should settle down with time. Do let your doctor know about it though.
I also had an area on my right buttock that was very sensitive to touch after surgery as well as some tingles and aches in my legs and feet. Things did improve. :-)

Now, at nearly 6 months after surgery, I am having new nerve symptoms and pains, but think this might be due to my neck. Waiting for a scan to see.

In the main, I am much better than before my lumbar fusion, and would still have the operation if I had to decide again. The awful sciatica in both legs and lower back pain, have practically gone now. :D

I wish you well in your recovery. Be prepared for it to try your patience.
It is a long recovery, but should be worth it in the end. :-)

  • It is good to hear from someone that had nerve pain also, and I am very happy to hear that it went away for the most part. I also have felt none of the original sciatic pain that I have lived with for so long. I do read that a lot of people have pain in their legs and feet temporarily after surgery, I have not had any of that. I wish you the best with trying to figure out what is causing you more pain. Take care and thank you for taking the time to write. Nothing can compare to talking to others about their experiences, makes me feel so much less alone.
