How long does it take to get the decision re: SSDI?

I thought it was around 72 days (I thought that's what she told me) but I still haven't heard anything. I submitted in the beginning of August. It doesn't actually feel like it's been that long, but of course I'm worried that something went wrong and I just botched the whole thing.

I don't expect to be approved.

  • Not that I am by any means an expert but it took a little over 3 months after my original filing to get the first decision. Perhaps each state is different and how long it takes them to get back requested medical records etc. would make a difference.

Don't beat yourself up. We really have no choice but to HANG ON FOR THE RIDE.
(Sorry, Just like everything else that goes on with this WHOLE STUPID CHRONIC PAIN THING, don't you get tired of hearing that?) Insert giggle here!

    HUGS!!!!

  • I was told, but seems like they told me to expect up to 6 months...it took about 4 for my first denial. Hopefully yours will be an approval.
  • They told me Within 120 days.
    I applied 8/19/10

But i also wonder like Frog if each state is different.

I applied this summer but SSDI has requested further information twice to I'm guessing that until they get that the clock doesn't start ticking until they have the full file to review.

  • I finally broke down and battled the thorns of telephone phobia and called them. It just went to the state board for a decision. I will have a decision by January, which will be close to 6 months.

I was on pins and needles. When they hold your future in their hands. It seems like forever! Then I was denied twice! Then to prevent the unknown and bleeding ulcers, I hired an attorney. Things moved right along and in what seemed like no time at all, I was approved. The attorney got a chunk of my back pay. But I was happy to give it and have it over with!
    Good luck, Jim
