Left hip pain from back injury

TWHladyinLVTTWHladyinLV Posts: 48
I've been up all night fighting sciatic pain in the left leg. Tonight it is unbearable. After I injured my back in July at work and have been off since I was hobbling around my back yard wondering how the heck am I going to get my yard work done, when I tripped and fell over a boulder, went down a slope onto a cactus. Etc. I landed Hard on my right side but ever since the left hip has been extremely painful. I went and had my right ankle x-rayed because I sprained it real bad and to rule out a fracture.
Now I am wondering if the left hip pain is more than just radiculopathy? Maybe I fractured it? It hurt before the fall, the leg was very numb and j had developed foot drop, thus the tripping. But the fall was in July and the pain keeps getting worse. I dismissed it because of the sciatic pain, but now wonder if I should get it x-rayed too?

Thanks always

  • P.S. I also have the feeling on the left side as though my hip and knee are out of joint and very loose. They made a brace for the foot drop issue, but no one ever thought to look at the hip as more than sciatic pain. Except now my doc wants me to be tested for MS because my issues are worse than what the MRIs show
  • Sorry to hear about relentless, constant pain u r in. I had constant sciatica nerve pain, low back and Right femur bone & hip pain.I saw hip doc. x-ray showed slight fracture, but all the overwhelming pain was radiating from lower back. Sciatica nerve is longest nerve in our bodies. Mine started low back R-side thru Glute straight down entire leg to R-foot .I am 6 weeks post-op from PLIF AND TWO discs L4,L5 REMOVED. i AM SCIATIC NERVE PAIN FREE for 1st time in 2years.I had MRI's and agreed to this surgery so surgeon could see the areas of pressure on that (&other)nerves and remove bulging discs to relieve pressure on the culprit nerves. He said he could see clearly what was causing all my pain, and indeed he removed the cause.I was told a year ago to do Phys. therapy which WORSENED my pain. No one can "walk off" severe sciatica pain, it also leads to nerve damage if not addressed properly. An MRI, X-ray wouldn't hurt, call your doctor Monday and see about setting these diagnostic tests up. I have found we patients have to be proactive in the diagnosing stage, pre and post-surgery, especially recovery. Good Luck Hope you can get this resolved. try and have an easy day as possible.
  • As you already know, hip pain can be caused by the back--just another form of sciatica. I wouldn't know if that's what you're experiencing but I can look back now and see that's what it was for me a few years back. Had been doing heavy lifting type of work at home and developed pain in my hip which was worst when climbing stairs--it also weakened that leg. Never went to the doctor for it, don't ask me why. It's been since having my lumbar issues diagnosed that I was told I'd likely herniated a disc at that time. The pain did go away, after a year and a half. Whatever the source of your hip pain, I hope you get it figured out and resolved way sooner than that!
