SS Exam by doctor today

I had a 2pm SS exam with an internal med doctor. He was nice, quickly whipped through questions, he had clearly read my records, etc. Seemed to comment that I have a lot medically going on that is not likely to approve. Didn't even want to touch my knee as it's swollen but he did feel the crepitus (crnunchy sound) in that knee at my request. So now we see what happens................

  • Interesting. Are they planning on other specialists? Hard to imagine them sticking to just a GP.
  • SpineAZ,

It sounds like he pretty much is agreeing with your medical status. At least that is how I am reading from your post. Fingers crossed it goes well!! :)

  • Just to tell ya "good luck". Hope everything goes your way.
  • Sounds like you had a good appt. to me. Now, why wasn't I sent to any SS doctors? I always wondered that!?

I was surprised it was just an internal med doctor but he had at least 2-3 others there for SS exams as well (I could tell by the paperwork they were holding). If I read him right he was doing this as a cursory look. He seemed to be amazed by all my scars and surgeries so hopefully he's on my side.

  • My SSD is internal to my Federal Disability retirement, but I too had to get a fitness exam. From what I could tell on mine, he was just confirming what all my paperwork said - he fully agreed and sent it up. Mine did a full exam though, and x-rays. Hopefully that is the same with the doctor you were sent to. Fingers crossed!! :)

  • I was sent to a SS doctor too. He asked his list of questions. Told me to "Stay the Course." He knew all my doctors and said I was seeing a great group of doctors and wondered why I was even there as my reports were quite complete.

He told me he just states his findings to SS and never finds out whether cases are approved or not.

He sent a copy of his report to my Physiatrist as well. In it, he agreed with everything previously stated.

Regardless, 2 weeks later I got my denial letter. Go Figure. Maybe it ties up loose ends medically, then there is the educational, work history background to consider. I'm not sure.

Good Luck Karin. It's all part of the process.

He had all the findings from my tests and stuff, so needed nothing new, which I hope is positive. If I get SS approval it will help cement my LTD and they'd likely leave me alone for a while too.

  • Positive energy for you SPINEAZ.... for a positive outcome!
  • good to hear your appt went well!
  • I hope you are approved the first "go around".

So far, I have only been sent to see a PhD (who specializes in hypnosis) for a psychological oral exam. It lasted 20 minutes. I was told if you take any kind of anti-anxiety meds or anti-depressants, you will sometimes be sent for this kind of exam.

I have never seen any other doctor, to date.

Please keep us posted. I am cheering you on for a first time approval! O:)

  • I am on both anti anxiety (ativan) and antidepressant (wellbutrin) and I was not sent to any of their docs, I still cannot figure it out to save my life!!! It seems to be a good thing when they send you to one of their docs, but then again, I got a favorable decision. I just don't understand their ways.
