I'm 8 days post op on my 2 level PLIF, and I took my first outside morning walk. I covered about 1/4 mile it took me 20 minutes, but I did it! looking forward to tomorrow morning's walk. I'm pretty tired, but feel great, so I'm going to reward myself with a big breakfast!!

I hope to build up to 1/2 mile by next week, but we'll see how it goes. I'm really prone to pushing my limits, so I have to MAKE MYSELF stop.

Hope everyone has a good day today.

  • Good for you! Walking is the best thing you can do to help yourself, but don't overdo it OK?

I hope you continue to improve bit by bit. Perhaps you'll give us an up-date every now and again to let us know how you're progressing.

  • Nathan,

There are several good walking programs out there. You might want to look at 10,000 steps as a guide line to use. Congrats on how far you have come and keep up the good work.
  • I always use to push myself, until I hurt. After a long time, I realized that I was just decreasing my circle of ability. By just doing things repeatedly, and following through, every day, I finally began building and expanding my circle of ability - and hence my activity levels began to slowly rise again.

So now I do things, and stop long before I hurt myself!
  • I made 1/2 mile today!! It took more time than I thought, but I'm not racing anyone. I feel great, I just love when I meet a goal and really like it when I meet a goal a little early.

my next goals now are 1)one full mile by the of the month. 2) Start scaling back on my pain meds.

    Best wishes to all,
  • Hi Nathan

That's good to hear how well you're doing with the walking. It's great to have goals, but do listen to your body each time you go out for a walk. The freedom of being able to walk again is great, isn't it.

Keep letting us know how you're going.
