Does anyone know how long it takes for the vicodin to leave your system after prolonged use? I have been taking it for 18 months and am weening off and would like to have an occasional cocktail with the hubby. Pharmacist couldn't find anything about it. How long do I have to wait after last pill, 1,2,4 weeks? Anyone know?

  • In the case of Vicodin, you not only have to be concerned with the opiate side of it, but the acetaminophen side of it as well. Your liver has to process all of this and adding alcohol to the mix makes it even harder. All the Vicodin literature recommends avoiding alcohol completely while using Vicodin. So if you are still taking any Vicodin, then it looks as if you should avoid alcohol all together.

    Hope this helps.

  • If You have one or two drinks every once in a while it is ok. My family dr.,surgeon and PM Dr. all told me that it was ok.

I have been on vicoden about the same amount of time.
Just dont over do it because two beers and vic is like a six pack or more.
  • Like mike 29 stated, the occasional drink or 2 will be fine. But if you are that concerned about it. The half life (time it takes your body to process it) is about 4 hours. For it to be completely put of your system for drug testing purposes is about 4-7 days depending on your metabolism, bmi etc... But, like was said earlier, you would be fine even taking it to have the occasional drink. Just don't over do it.

  • My doc would like me to get off the vicodin completely. So what Im asking is how long after stopping it can I drink? I wouldn't drink while taking vicodin, been there done that, not a great feeling!!!!!
