I had anterior fusion of C5-6 done in July 2008. I now present with new issues from injury at work November 2010..which worsened upon returning to school this year. I have done PT..three epidurals and just started acupuncture. Arm pain, numbness and nerve pain is completely GONE..neck pain was still bad, but after the third epi-dural and then starting acupuncture I am beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel with some pain-free days!
I have doctor appt. tomorrow, he wants to review my mri films. He actually scheduled surgery for February, but I am going to tell him I want to hold off...as long as my pain continues to decrease (even slowly) my most recent MRI (september)in a nutshell:
C6-7: Desiccation, mild to moderate disc protrusion, shallow right paramedian disc herniation
C3-C4 and C4-C5: there is disc degeneration with loss of signal and disc height. mild to mod. disc protrusion with left > right neural foraminal narrowing at C3-4 and mild bilateral neural foraminal compromise at C4-5
C2-3: disc dessication w/o evidence of herniation.
He wants to fuse C6-C7..i am going to ask him about the rest of my cervical spine...looks like there is a lot of degeneration and i worry about the effect of fusing another level will have on everything else..
If my numbness is gone (emg showed ( new) c7 nerve irritation and old C5 irration (?) and the
arm pain, numbness etc is gone, doesn't that mean that the
herniation is resolving itself? I REALLY do not want to make a career out of having fusions!
Thanks..just looking for input and advice.
