I was just wondering if anyone here had the XLIF done? I see alot of ALIF , TLIP etc but not many XLIF.. Just wondering.. Thanks

  • Hi, Robyn. I did, about 13 months ago. I'm very happy with the way things turned out. Have zero back pains and no residual back problems. I had the XLIF at L4-5 plus hardware (4 screws, 2 rods). The operation took my very experienced surgeon 3 hours -- one hour less than usual. (1 1/2 for the XLIF, 1 1/2 to flip me and do the hardware.) I was in the hospital for 5 days, 4 nights, a little long because the drugs kind of knocked me out. By the end of the first week was walking a half mile outside. Pain was very well managed with drugs, which I was off around week 3. Cars were the most uncomfortable and for a couple of months but nothing unbearable. Do you have any specific questions?
