I really don't know what to do with my husband anymore. Sorry if this post is long.. My husband has had 6 back surgeries.4 Laminectomies and 2 fusions.. The last fusion in 2009 was a complete failure and he just underwent an XLIF in October this yr to correct the last fusion..
As of today he is Post op almost a month and a half..He is still on massive pain meds although he says the horrendous pain he was in the last 2 years is gone. He says the leg pain is all gone, has regained use of the right leg..He has been telling me he has pain but he keeps saying it's probably soreness from surgery.. He has been trying to walk upright since being hunched over for the last 2 years but the problem is I don't believe he's trying enough..
Maybe I am expecting to much too soon?.. He hasn't walked at all since his surgery. I had to go through all the hassle to get him a walker so he could WALK daily but he doesn't do it.. Almost refuses too.. When I mention it I get "yeah I know"..He says driving still hurts him, he says he can't walk for any length of time, can't stand up for any length of time...He will get up and help me around the house as much as he can "when he feels like it" but then I have to hear how he needs to rest, he's in pain etc etc etc..
I just feel like he's not doing ANYTHING to try and recover. The doctor wanted him WALKING every day and he WONT.. He lays around all damn day on the couch playing video games or if he HAS NO choice because I don't give him one he will run small errands like to the store for something or feeding my dogs in the morning, dispensing their medications but thats it..
Am I expecting too much or is he just not doing what he should be? Thanks
