Hello. I was injured at work the end of December 2009. I am a registered nurse. I have had xrays and an mri. the mri showed discs bulging, a small annular tear, and some compression. all is in the L3 to S1 area. The symptoms started out at low back pain that radiated down the left leg. it increased to numbness, heaviness, tingling in the left leg and right. the right side resolved after a few weeks but the left hasnt.
Since December I have had physical therapy, 4 steroid injections, a consultaion with a spine dr, a consultation with a rehabilitation dr, a functional capacity test, and now work conditioning because I am still on restricted light duty at work.
The low back pain has improved but still flares up with certain activity. I have had continuos left leg aching, burning, heaviness. all my reflexes are ok no foot drop. 3 weeks ago I started work conditioning which consists of exercicing for 2 hrs a day 3x a week. Since I have been doing this my leg symptoms have become more persistant. THe thobbing, aching, burning, pins and needles have increased and usuall flares to extremely uncomfortable about 30 minutes after exercising.
the spine dr i saw said he did not think i need surgery according to the mri results (this was back in May)
I am so frustrated. I really dont know what to do do. All of my treatment is regulated by wokers comp. i see my pcp again in next week.
it seems like a never ending battle.
