Hi everyone...I'm newer here; haven't posted in quite some time. I had a 4-level fusion with allograft (C3-C7) on 11/3/10 for left arm radiculopathy & neck pain. Immediately after surgery, my left arm pain was completely gone! That was wonderful, but while in the hospital, my right hand began to hurt horribly. I was given IV Decadron and started on Neurontin. The right hand pain resolved, but the pain seemed to "travel" to the upper right arm & now I have quite a bit of weakness in the arm and numbness in the thumb, index, middle & ring fingers from the top knuckle up. I also have occasional rt hand pain, but it comes & goes. I had a cervical epidural 11/16/10 by my pain doc, which had minimal success. I'm scheduled for an EMG on 12/21/10. I also had a spinal cord stimulator implanted in 2006 for right arm pain, and prior to surgery, it was working excellent. Now, the stimulator doesn't even touch the tremendous rt arm pain. I'm also scheduled on 12/16/10 to get the stim re-programmed to see if they can help me.
I guess what I'd like to know is has anyone had cervcal surgery and developed severe neuropathy, with numbness & weakness? I had about one day after surgery with only surgical pain, and was SO thrilled. Then, the really bad pain began with the right arm. Any thoughts, etc, that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I'm getting so frustrated, and just want to feel better. Oh, & by the way, I'm now on Kadian extended-release morphine & take it ever 12 hours. This has helped some with the pain, & I also take MSIR (immediate release morphine) when the pain really flares up. I'm also using Capsaicin lotion on the right arm, and this seems to help quite a bit. I'd just like to know if this neuropathy has any chances to resolve, or if I'm stuck with it permanently. I know it's different for everyone, but any thoughts would be so appreciated. Thanks to all for reading my post; it's nice to be able to reach out to others who can truly understand what this pain is all about!!!!
