I am hoping to get more information than what I have already been told and found on my own for my issue.
I am 35 yrs old and have a posterior disc herniation at t12-l1. I have absolutely no idea how this happened. The pain started as sciatica and escalated from there. My mobility is limited at best and I spend 90% of my ttime in bed or sitting. I can drive so that is a positive and I have a deskjob so I am fortunate that I can go to the office and then get myself home.
However, I deal with debilitating pain right in the middle of my back slightly below the waist line with severe shooting nerve pain down my right leg and into my toes at times and numbness on the lsft side of my left thigh.
I have had 3 epidurrals with minimal relief and now take 900 mg 3 times a day of nerontin and around 4 percocet per day for pain.
All doctors I have been too are convinced all my issues arre due to the herniation even though my pain is lower than the actual location. The surgery option is was given is a Direct Lateral XLIF and was guranteeed that after this surgery and dealing with pain from it since my left lung would need to be collapsed I would then need another surger to fuse the vertebrae since they would remove the entire left side of the disc material.
I was wondering if there are any folks that have had any similar experiences that have any input. Thank you.
