I had a two level fusion L4-S1 November 3 2009. SInce then I have had on again and off again left leg pain and butt pain. I had some injections done and MRI's to check the nerves. The doctor thinks that the nerve is getting aggervated by the screw. He states that this is common and some people go in for another surgey to remove the screws. I was curious if anyone else has had this problem and if so did you do the surgery and what was the outcome. Also what did the surgery entail and how long were you in surgery and what was the recovery period. Thanks for all your help. I appreciate it.

  • I had a two level fusion, and had my hardware removed. It wasnt the problem, as I still had extreme pain. The surgery itself isnt bad, an overnight stay(maybe) and surgery itself length is probably different case by case depending on what approach they use. Mine was about an hour I think, and it was PLIF. Recovery is way easier than fusion. Just have to let incision heal. I know I cant help much, but my Dr did a test to see if the hardware was a problem. Good Luck.
  • I had my hardware removed the same levels, was having lots of pain with activity and left leg pain to. I am completely pain free in the fusion area and was so worth it to me. They can do a hardware injection if needed to be sure that is where the pain is coming from. The surgery was short, I stayed 1 night in hospital and had min. pain. Thinking it was 2 weeks or little more and felt great. Pretty much as soon as the surgery pain went away I was completely healed. I would do it again if needed. Now going the get the hardware removed out of neck and hopefully be completely done with all surgeries..If you see the screws they put in and rod you would understand why hardware is so painful.

    Wish you luck,
