XLIF Concerns

Over the previous 10 years I've had 3 lumbar laminectomies and many epidurals between L1 and L5. I'm now on pain medication until I decide which surgical method i feel the most comfortable with. My primary orthopedic spine surgeon wants to do a XLIF fusion between L1 and L5 and possibly L5-S1. It's a difficult decision for me because I've heard that it is rare for a doctor to want to do xlif on that many levels. My pain is so bad lately (level 8-10) that I just want relief and am not as concerned about the risks. One neurosurgeon wants to do L1-S1 posterior surgery.

I am a 71 year old male and in very good health otherwise. All of the doctors that I have seen have told me that my health is good enough to handle the xlif L1-L5 + L5-S1 procedure. However, I need some feedback from others who have gone through this procedure, good or bad. Any advice that you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Feel free to pm me with any help. Thank you very much. David Posner
