Hello all, I am feeling quite blessed to have found this web site.I have been trying to cope with acute back and hip pain since the age of 24yrs.I will be 53yrs old soon. The pain is caused by constant disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, and lots of spurring and scar tissue. In 1989 the birth of my 2nd child(11 lbs 8oz.)shattered my tailbone.I have also been in two serious auto accidents over the past 15yrs,and the list goes on...I was seeing a wonderful Doc who understood my pain and treated it adequately.Unfortunately,he retired in 1990.Since that time I have been unsuccessful in my search for another.I am currently taking Vicoden for pain with Flexeryl also.Ineffective to say the least.I worked 50 hrs weekly for 30yrs and led a fairly active life and raised three wonderful children and recently was blessed with my first grandchild. The sad part is that some days I cannot stand long enough to shower or prepare a meal, and have to ask for help with even the smallest tasks.I was prescribed 10mg/650 Percoset from my old Doc.and they worked well, but I do worry about all the acetometofin that this medication contained as well as the Vicoden. Is there anything anyone out there may suggest that would alleviate my pain and at least allow me to regain even a part of my old life back, not to mention my dignity?? Any helpful ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank-You....

  • I had a similar concern a while back and talked to my general DR before I got my referrals to PM dr. He switched me to norco 10/325. I think they have 500/325 also. I found for me and some of the reading ive been doing that the percocet works better but dosnt last as long.. I had to stop taking them and switch after my surgery before they were gone because I was getting to the point that the percocet stopped working as perscribed.. so I saved them for break through pain.. greatfully I have not had to use them and am happy with the norco for now.
get a new PM that you like and trust and run it by him or her.
    good luck.
  • hi and welcome to the forum! :H we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. i too would suggest you try another pain specialist and try a long acting pain medication.. they stay in your system constantly, you don't have to take them all day and they offer a bit stronger pain relief.. a good doctor could help you with this and many other pain options... good luck to you.. i am just about your age as well and understand the problems of aging and having pain.. we have to work extra hard to take care of ourselves..stop by anytime! Jenny :)
