What Is Causing This Pain Radiating From What Feels Like T7, T8, or T9

Hi all. I sure hope someone out there can answer this for me.

I had a chiropractic adjustment nearly a year ago and received some type of injury from an over adjustment in my thoracic spine. I missed 10 days of work due to the extreme pain it put me in and literally has bruising show up in my armpit of all places haha. I figured I must have been bruised quite deeply for that to happen.

Anyway, an X-ray showed nothing broken nor a rib out? as another chiropractor suggested it could be. I've never had an MRI on it though.

Roll forward, I still have pain. I've researched as best I know and can't come up with what it could be.

My symptoms are pain and stiffness, occasional muscle spasms, and tightness that seems to come from somewhere around T7, T8, or T9 and radiates around to my stomach?! Yes, my stomach. It feels at times like I am getting stomach flu?!?

What the heck can this be? I now understand why people with chronic pain get depressed. This is really starting to take a toll on my mental and physical health.

Please guide me on what it could be and if an MRI is needed to solve the puzzle. ~X(

  • an MRI would be a good way of trying to see what is causing this pain.

    Good luck! :-)
  • Tntoby,

Welcome to Spine Health!! Have you seen your GP to address your symptoms? Better yet, if your insurance allows, I would try to get with a spine specialist - Orthopedic or Neurologist. I have DDD and bone spurs at my T8/9/10 and have what I call the 'burning ring of fire' around my rib cage and abdomen. At first my NS thought I herniated there, but fortunately it wasn't that dire, but it still hurts like a bugger!

More likely than not, a spine specialist will have you get an MRI or CT to see if there is alignment or disk issues going on. Please let us know how it goes. Sorry you're hurting.

  • Thank you all for your thoughts and concern. Unfortunately, I have no insurance right now, so I can't afford to see any doctor at this time. (Lay off) But, then again, I'm not sure I can afford not to. :)
  • Sorry to hear you were laid off, and now have no insurance. This economy isn't helping matters any. Hopefully it will all work out.
