Got a call this morning from my attorney who said that the judge had ruled in my favor. I will recieve benefits all the way back to January 2006. Also will be getting medicare right away because I have been disabled more than 2 years.

I was supposed to have a hearing on Monday morning in a town that is 120 miles away. I was dreading the drive and now I don't have to go!!

It's hard to believe after all this time. So those of you still waiting for a decision or a hearing, hang in there maybe next week will be your turn.

  • Congratulations to you in your success... Such as something like this can be a success.
I am just beginning my journey, and am trying to go in open eyed and informed.
I wish you some semblance of peace and relief :)
  • Congrats, that is great news. I'm just starting my SSD application but found out today that my LTD policy is approving me. Hopefully SSD will be as quick.

That should be a nice check coming your way. Remember to keep enough aside for taxes.
  • I really am feeling kind of bittersweet about this. So happy that there will be more income and insurance, but sad that I have to realize that my working life is over. Most of the time I really enjoyed working and the people that I worked with. But perhaps this is just a new road to be explored.!!

  • There is always volunteering. Use your skills to help others.
  • My wife and I have talked about where we could volunteer in our area. Because of both of our restrictions, it kind of limits what we can do, but we are open to helping where we can and I'm sure we will find something to keep us occupied. Right now I am preparing for a 3 level lumbar fusion that I will be having as soon as I can get everything in place.
  • Gary,

Congratulations! That's gonna be a hell of a bunch of back pay! Nice to have that monkey off your back huh? Happy for you! :)

  • Just wanna tell ya "congrats".
Thats a lot of lost income, along with the headaches that came with it.

Try to do something fun to take your mind off of things for awhile. After 4 years you deserve it.

  • It's been a long haul trying to get my disability. My wife and I are planning a vacation before I have any more surgery. Because of all the medical bills the last few years we haven't even been able to get away even for a weekend anywhere. We're going to just take a leasurely trip, driving only as far as we feel like, so my back doesn't give me any more pain than usual.
