New member-17 yr old with Spinal Stenosis

Hey guys I thought I'd register after a few months of lurking these forums. I'm 17 and was diagnosed with spinal stenosis back in September. It started out with the usual sharp pain in the left ass cheek (lol) and then slowly got worse and worse until about October when I found out about these miraculous Chinese herbal pad things (I'll make a proper thread detailing this later). Almost a month later 95% of my sharp PITA went away but my foot was still going numb a lot. Then I started using an inversion table and since using that my foot numbing got much better until a few weeks ago...which I suspect has something to do with me lying around doing nothing all day during spring break other than playing guitar and mixing/mastering.

The thing that's been worse about this whole situation is probably that I haven't been able to go to the gym at all since September. Before my stenosis I was going to the gym everyday with my dad and life was great. Since stopping I've lost around 30-40 lbs and have been gaining it back in good old fat. (hhahaa)

Another thing that's been pretty bad is that this happen during my last year of high school, which incidentally is the year I need great grades to get into the university of my choice, which probably won't be happening now as I can rarely get proper sleep.

The doctors suggested sleeping pills/pain meds but I really want to stay off that so when I'm older my liver is in good shape and capable of handling more meds if need be.

Luckily out of two specialists I saw neither recommended surgery and one said a full recovery is possible, which I'm extremely grateful for.

Anyways, tonight my right side started hurting and I was wondering if this is normal for spinal stenosis patients or if it's just me sleeping wrong and being paranoid?

My stenosis/disk bulging is in L4/L5/S1

  • It turned out to be the pain switching over to the other side. Luckily I saw the doctor and an awesome physio today so I'm feeling much, much better.
  • Glad you are feeling better, hopefully you will have a full recovery. It is horrible to be in so much pain, especially when you are a senior in HS and have a lot to look forward to. I also have stenosis and bulging disc with bone spurs. I am 23. I will have surgery in June.
