Definition of Sedentary??

Hi everyone, hope all is well. My question is in regards to what is defined as sedentary work? I beleive it would require 6 hours of sitting per day with occasional standing and walking not to exceed 2 hours per day. My NS has put my limitations as 3 hours intermittent sitting, 3 hours intermittent standing, and 2 hours intermittent walking. I have to lay down quite a bit during the day due to the chronic pain. I might be able to do one day of the above, but the second day I would be toast. Hope everyone has a nice, pain limited day!!

Sedentary work: Lifting and carrying up to 10 lb, standing and walking under 2 hr in 8 hr work day. Majority of time spent sitting. Job can allow alternating between sitting and standing.

Light work: sitting 2 hr out of 8 hr work day, standing limited to 6 hr out of 8 hr work day. Lifting 11-20 lb occasionally, and 10 lbs frequently.

  • Characterized by, or requiring, much sitting; as, a sedentary employment; a sedentary life. Reading, solitude, idleness, a soft and sedentary life, intercourse with women and young people, these are perilous paths for a young man, and these lead him constantly into danger.
