Buldging discs and Pain after orgasm

123mommy1123mommy Posts: 7
Hello, I am a 35 yr old mother who injured my back in Nov/10, I had a ct scan & it was discovered I have 3 buldging discs. Not sure of the exact location. I have been in extreme pain since. Been on numerous meds to try & get rid of the pain. Right now I am on 10mg toradol 2-3xday, and either percocet or tramacet. I have started alternating between the 2 as neither of them seem to work right now. Every time I have an orgasm, I am back to square one in my pain. Sex its self does not hurt, its the actual orgasm. I have mentioned this to my dr and she has put a rush on getting the MRI for the surgeon. Anyone else have this problem? Also, my leg/butt pain will spasm for up to 3 days after orgasm. Its very frustrating :(

  • hi and welcome to the forum! :H we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. i do not have any answers for your problem and am surprised your doctor will not help..perhaps you need to change doctors to one who will give you an MRI?? you do need to have one for a diagnosis..no surgery would be considered without one..please have a good look around the different forums and make yourself at home..good luck to you! Jenny :)
  • I hope you get your MRI soon and glad your Dr. put a rush on it. I think many nerves and muscles are involved with orgasm and when I was first injured at 47 my leg would go numb and had sensations all the way up to my stomach instead of where it used to be. But I know mine is age related also because I'm in menopause now and no longer have any sensations and me and my husband sleep separate. Best wishes and hope it gets sorted out for you. Charry

  • hi there I am getting an MRI just takes awhile here in Canada. I know they won't do surgery without thats why I'm waiting. But was very discouraged when this latest symptom came about, just wondered if anyone else has had this problem. I have an awesome Dr who has done lots to get me help. Which is great, don't know what I'd do without him. He's not afraid to try different meds or switch things up. Most dr won't let you stay on Toradol long here but he is just for the fact that the combination of that & tramacet or percocet works sometimes. I am just very frustrated and want this done with. Not being able to enjoy my family or do things I once could pisses me off. Thanks for the help!
  • I've actually had some of what you are describing. I can only guess that when we have one of those wonderful orgasms, we arch our lower back pretty hard. I can see if you have bulging disks, or herniated ones, pressure is probably hitting pretty hard during that movement. I too hope you have answers soon, and too would get another opinion.

Hopefully this isn't too much "TMI"... You might try doggy style - it's helped me. Or just try other positions to see what works for you. *blush*

Take care, and Welcome to Spine Health!!

  • see thats the thing ive tried different positions, doesn't help. Only helps if I don't have an orgasm lol
  • I don't get them "each" time, but found either doggy, or in our pool helps. :)

I would get another Neurologist or other spine specialist's opinion to see what is going on. It would be interesting if your orgasms actually "showed" what is going on with your back? What a kick that would be? Glad to see you are "trying" different approaches. (G)

  • I just started doing some reading on this because of my own symptoms. It can cause just what you describe, as well as a number of other symptoms.

I haven't figured out yet if it's spine related, I'm under the impression it's primarily caused by muscles in spasm, but I don't quite get the whole picture.

May be worth researching to see if it's a good fit.
  • Am new here, but this caught my eye, real fast. I too have this very intense pain in hip and down into both legs with orgasm. Sometimes, am unable to have orgasm at all. Have tried several positions, with little relief, except, sometimes the leaning forward does seem to help a bit (assume it takes pressure off the
spinal nerves) Sure would be glad to know, exactly what causes this. Told neuro about it early on, and
he had that confused look. My husband and I have worked out a code word so that he now knows to immediately stop his movements so the pain will ease up quicker, which doesn't stop it from happening, but it does allow participation. Generally, I will feel really jammed up in my lower spine and have more spinal nerve jolts, stings, and tingles, which can be pretty intense for 24-48 hours afterwards. This does require more meds for me too. Am on 90 mg of Cymbalta and 900 mg neurotin daily with 5-10 mg oxycodone for breakthru pain. And yes, this is very
frustrating, even for a 55 year old, married 37 years, with a wonderful, loving husband who is very
loving and patient. Hang in there and hopefully you can find some answers and some relief.
  • I have the same problem. I've just about given up on sex because it is not worth the pain it causes me. It happens once in a while but, like everything else in life, it just isn't what it used to be. Best of luck to you and hope you find answers soon. I too am in Canada and playing the waiting game for an MRI.
  • I've just spent two nights in the hospital because of lower back pain which I could no longer stand, went by ambulance because I was scared to get off the sofa, (had been there for 36 hrs).
Anyway, I got my first toradol injection at about 22:00 and then some morphine about an hour later.
The toradal had taken effect already but I didn't say no to the morphine, I needed to have a good night's sleep since I hadn't had one in about a month.
Wow, I went to sleep like a little baby with a very big grin (not because of the morphin high but just so happy to not have pain. The next morning, they gave me another shot of toradol around 06:30 and that relieved me a great deal, almost no pain.
Now I have some in pill form but be aware there can be side effects if used for more than a week, depending on the person of course.
Always consult side effects and long term usage.

Will report later if pill form is working.
  • Ive been on Toradol, tramacet & intermittent percs since november. I know toradol is only for 5 days use, as does my dr. But given that its the only thing in combination with the tramacet that works, he says the benefits are outweighing the risks with me :( I have monthly blood work to ensure its not hurting my kidneys or stomach. So far so good. I am down to 1 to 2 per day now which is an improvement over 3-4. I've had to rely on percs the last 2 mths more than the tramacet, as I find its not working like it used to, probably because my body has gotten used to it. Still no surgery in sight. Am waiting for appt with the surgeron asap they told me. I have 6 spots in my back that are needing attention. The most serious being near the lower back tailbone area. Sorry I don't know the correct number/spot. The others are needing repair but given that they are spread out over such a wide area, he didn't think they would try & repair the others. Just the one that is so close to causing nerve damage to my bladder/bowel nerves. Right now I can't have any sex, let alone orgasm. Its gotten to the point of just having intercourse is painful. Which it wasn't before. SO frustrated that I really don't know what to do anymore. I am overweight by 80lbs and he's hoping by losing weight it will help some. He's not 100 % confident but its a start I guess. I've lost 20lbs in 3 weeks so im off to a good start. Just so scared I will end up addicted to the drugs and be in worse off shape because of that. But I can't live in pain day in & day out. I have a family & 3 young children to look after. Most of my day once they are to school is spent in bed. I do use my recumbent bike 1-2 times a day for 15 mins each time. That is helping me with my weight loss. But I feel so helpless :(
  • Hm i have been having very similar problems leg and intense pelvic pain, coupled with urinary frequency. I had the surgery done 36 days ago on my l4l5 disc. My leg is doing better even bladder is working better. However, the stupid pelvic pain is still there. I sincerely hope ur case is different. Good luck i havent't had sex in 2 years...:(
  • So Im off to see another specialist in 2 weeks. Its gotten very bad now. I have been having trouble peeing and actually have to strain to pee. Really weird feeling. I have had to increase the amount of pain killers I've been using as well. Been to family Dr and he's pretty sure that the nerve is getting pinched worse now as the pain is getting worse, also its now my right side hurting, which has never hurt before. I felt like a really weird popping/snapping noise the other night when I woke up to pee. I couldn't pee and started to strain to pee, the heard/felt the pop/snap and had all the pain I could stand in my lower back/groin area. Now the muscles in the backs of my thighs are so tight & hard feels like I've run a marathon non stop. Really painful, never had this before the other night episode either. Certainly hoping the new Dr will have some answers for me. Getting really tired of not feeling good & being able to enjoy life. Thank god my spouse is very supportive and loving. Thanks for your feedback good to know I'm not alone.
  • What u r describing is NOT very good. The lack of sensation and not being able to control ur urin is NOT a good sign. I would advise u to go to the ER and get urself admitted for an urgent surgery. Or get in touch immediatelly with a very good neurosurgeon. It is often the case that if u do not have surgery wihin 48 h from the start of the urinary problems of that kind, the damage is irreversible.... In other words, ur nerve is compressed to the point it can t take it anymore.....
