Im three weeks post operation from a l4l5 microdiscectomy and I still feel the pain from my back to my foot. My left foot has numbness and pain worse than before and the sharp stabbing pain in my back and leg sting even more. I just had a buldged disc but,it was pressed on my nerve for eleven months before surgery and im not feeling any relief.I know that it takes time but how long can someone handle this kind of pain? I have not done anything but walking and not too much of that so Im going a little nuts just sitting here in pain and was just wondering if anyone else ever had this much pain with such a simple surgery? Would appreciae any input.

  • Hello

It is totally normal to still have pain and an increase in pain too. Continue to take your pain killers and short walks.

A microdiscectomy is assumed simple because the incision is only an inch or two, but remember they have cut your back muscle, moved nerves and prodded and poked down to your spine.

3 weeks is still early although frustrating to you because of the pain. i do sympathise because i have had one too, and it hurt like hell for me too.

i took 3 months to drive and never got pain free. im currently 12 days post op from a spine fusion on the disc i had a discectomy on, and only now am i getting reduced pain and a light at the end of the tunnel.

hang in there, call your surgeon if you have any increased pain, swelling and reddness at your incision site.

with your pain after 3 weeks i would be calling your doctor to discuss and get better pain control.

hoping you feel some relief soon.
