Well, I saw my NS yesterday, and I'm going back for surgery on my neck. He was flip-flopping back and forth between doing a fusion or another foraminotomy. We had a really good discussion about it, and finally decided on the foraminotomy, but this time it's on my left side, and he has to do it at 2 discs, c4/5 and 5/6, the one on my right side was 5/6. That disc actually is about at 1/4 of the normal height, and 4/5 isn't much better. But he said that he was leery of doing a fusion at my age (38), I'm "so young, just a baby" LOL. He said because they're usually only good for about 10 years, and that I should just wait because by then, I'll probably be needing another surgery anyways.
I trust his opinion, so we're going for the foraminotomy. I know it will only take care of the nerve pain, but at least I'll have that pain out of the picture. The last one helped so much, unfortunately though, that foramen is blocked up again. But, he's going in from the right side anyways, so he can fix up that side too while he's in there.
So, next month, I'm back on the table again. Oh joy! I just wonder how many more times I'll be saying that...
