  • let me tell u just a taste of what im goin through..

im a 20 yr old female..
my first surgery was when i was 15..
i had a diskectomy bc i had 2 herniated disks..
i had no scyotic nerve problems b4 this surgery..
after the surgery, a went through theropy and ya know no one goes back to normal after, but i learned what i could n what i couldntt do..
i realized that i had no feeling in the left side of my left leg but i never had pain in it..
so i went on to high school and graduated..
2 weeks after graduating i was rearended by a shuttle bus!! which reherniated those same two disk and herniated another one and crushed my scyotic nerve.. now the numb leg i never had pain in is extreamly painful burning so bad that i cant even sit on my left but cheek for more than 60 seconds..
    i graduated in 09..
i was going to go to collage..

anyway thats not even a taste of it!!
let me know if you could help or want to know the rest..

there is no hope for me at this point!!
  • First let me say welcome to spine-health. Have a look around and you will find many here going through the same thing as yourself. Read in the low back and sciatica, leg pain radiculopathy forums and you will many post like yours. You might also find it helpful at the top of those forums it some very good articles written by doctors on those issues. Also at the top of the main page is a section called FAQ which can answer any questions you have about the forums in general. In that section there is also links to articles on preparing to meet with a spine specialist.

What type of treatments have you tried sense your new issues developed? What levels of the lumbar are your issues located at? When is the last MRI you have had done or any imaging? What type of doctor is currently treating you? Do you take any medications and if so what types? Are you doing any daily stretches to help or a home therapy program?

Just thought I would stop by and welcome you to spine-health. If there is anything I can help you with don't hesitate to pm(private message) me. Take care and look forward to reading more of your post.
  • Sorry to hear what's happened to you and being so young. I hope you're seeing a Pain Management Dr. to help you and hope you get second opinions from a Neurologist and Orthopedic or Neurosurgeon who can help you.

Have you had an EMG/nerve test on your leg yet? I have to go tomorrow and get another one and they're a little uncomfortable but gives the Dr. info if the nerve is being compressed and if you need injections or more tests or possibly surgery.

Do you take a nerve pain med for your leg? I take Cymbalta and helps somewhat with other pain meds. Never give up looking for a Dr. to help you. Praying you will get better so you can get back to your studies. >:D< Charry

  • I don't have much more to say from that already offered, except to welcome you. I only joined about 5 weeks or so ago and have found it very helpful. I had cervical surgery 4 weeks ago.

I have a daughter who is 21 who has back and leg pain issues and is under treatment. She has been able to go to college, but she has been able to get accommodations for additional time/change in schedule of tests or assignments, etc. I just wanted to make sure you know there are accommodations available.

I hope you are able to get some relief through pain management. Feel free to ask questions in this forum...somebody is likely to have had similar issues or suggestions.

    Take care,

  • Hi Britt,

Welcome to the forum! I just stubbled across it a couple of weeks ago myself and I am loving it. I am now coming here everyday to read articles and connect with others going through the same things. Just wondering if you have thought of going to College online while you are going through this. I have been going for the last couple of years and it has helped me a great deal to feel at least that I am accomplishing something. I can work at my own pace on my good times, even from bed! I have been going part time online and almost have my associates degree. Sorry you are going through so much at such a young age, don't give up, just learn to find away through all of this. I know you can! If you need to talk you can private message me! :)

Jenny :)

  • Wow thank all of yall I wouldn't think I'd even get any peplies back.. And thank u all for your advice!! As for the online classes part.. I'd love to atleast do that I've been wanting to but I'm on ssi and only get 600 dollars a month I can barley afford my bills. My gf was llucky enough to find a job last month after looking for almost a year but this job is only a temp :( so who knows how long she'll go w/o a job this time I feel sohorrible bc I'm the reason she even got fired from her last job at a gym/daycare bc I had a seiZure and I was in the er and when she called in like 4 hrs b4 she wass suppose to go in bc she didn't want to leave me and when she did her boss said either you come in or it was nice working with you :( so she chose to stay with me and with the recession its been so hard to find a job, and I absolutly can't work, which I'd LOVE to!! I hate being like this!!
  • I just read your thread. Sorry to hear you are going through all this at a ripe old [not] age of 20.

As for your saying "nothing more they can do", I don't know if I would take 1 or 2 doctors or even more telling me that. You shouldn't close that door yet. Find out who the Orthopedic Spine, or Neurosurgeons are in or out of your area that specialize in complex spine, or revision issues. Please don't give up, okay?

    Welcome to Spine Health!! :)
