Hi to all my fellow spineys. I wasn't sure which forum to post this in sooooooo. I am 2.5 years post l4-l5 fusion. During the surgery, my ortho discoverd an exceedingly large cyst in that area that was somewhat unexpected as it barely showed up on the preop mri. Now I have considerable nerve damage and post fusion pain.
My last mri was about 16 months ago and it showed a herniated disc right above the fusion sight. In spite of 2 radio frequency ablations and numbers of steroid injections, my pain over the last few month is getting worse (as if I ever imagined that it could be worse!)
I don't know if the herniated disc might be the culprit??? Can anyone tell me if electromyograms are effective as diagnostic tools AFTER one has had fusion. I have never had one. I do know that my ortho says the hardware appears to be fine.
I am inclined to consult a neurosurgeon but at the same time, I think I would rather die than have another fusion. I need advice from you guys. I really don't know what to do. Thanks in advance for your help! Kathy
