I have a muscle in the center of may abdomen that is probably an inch and a half apart. When I try to strengthen my core it sticks up all the way down and is uncomfortable. Many people PT, surgeon told me there is nothing they would do about that. I have thoracic back issues (previous surgery and probably need another one) and not being strong in the core seems to be making it even worse. Does anyone have any suggestions? My dr. says come back if I get a hernia. NICE huh?

  • I think what your Dr meant by the hernia remark was just (& he probably thought he was being amusing) just that when something happens that is more serious, to come on back to the office.. because the muscle you are seeing in your abdomen (the one that sticks up during excertion) is normal. The discomfort is just because it is getting a work-out and sometimes it pulls tighter than others. You should have seen my abdomen whenever I was pregnant and doing excercises, those muscles were huge and looked abnormal.. and felt different too at that time (lol).

If you can see those muscles popping up while strength training, don't worry, it's a good thing and means you are getting stronger :)))
