Pop feeling and then pain?

So I've done a little searching and haven't found anything like this. I have on and off lower back pain. I had an X-ray and they said I am getting arthritis and they sent me to physical therapy. That lasted about a week. It got better on it's own. I am pretty active and am pretty carefull about my back. I ride dirt bikes and always stretch before. It actually makes my back feel better.

So once or twice a year lately. I'll be not even moving. Just standing there pondering something in my mind. My lower back will pop and the pain will start. I can't bend over or lift anything. It will last for a week to a month. Today I was squatting down and just got done scrubbing the BBQ. Not even moving. I felt the pop and now I'm in pain. It drives me crazy. Because I feel perfect up until that time. No pain at all. Not even a little. I am a out 210. Should be about 190. 46 year old auto mechanic.

Any ideas?

  • You might want to go see a specialist...not to say that you need surgery or anything like that but you do need to find out what is happening. You said you ride dirt bikes and I know for a fact that it can be a very jarring experience , not to say that is what is causing the problem. Any way it is better to be safe than sorry...see a doc and please keep us posted on what you find out...and until you see a doc try to take it easy. Also remember that we are here for you!! If I can be of any help then please just let me know...take care!!!
  • Exactly the same thing that would happen in my neck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could fall down the stairs and it wouldn't start a flair. But I would just be standing there or even reach over to get something and "pop" the pain would start and just build. It was an awful and dreadful feeling.

You should ask for an MRI, xrays only show bone.

  • I have been dealing with it for about 18 years. When I excersise it never happens. So I need to loose 20 pounds and get on a routine. I feel like the Dr don't realy care. It could be a disc or something. Every one in my family has back problems, Mom, Dad, brother and sisters. I used to excersise every day for years and never had problems. So thats what I'm going to do.
