Hi! I am so glad I found this board. I am still scared like crazy but I think I am getting a handle on it.
I am scheduled for an ALIF with "hardware: on August the 9th. I have been in pain for 12 years and then was in a car accident on June 22 of this year. Sitting at a red light an rear-ended, They guy didn't even hit his brakes till the very last ans was going 45 mph. (totalled my car!)
I have 2 ruptured discs, L 3-4-5 and bone bruising and a tear somewhere in there. I already had DDD and arthritis.
I trust my surgeon (ortho) and like the hospital I will be at. I have a wonderfull boyfriend who has taken great care of me even before all of this.
I got a toilet seat riser and a long handled "grabber". Lots of soft foods, set up at waist height, silky PJs and button front tops.
No one has told me much at all about recovery. I know I will be in some kind of brace. The hospital stay "should be" 2-3 days. I have read on here that anterior surgery is easier to recover from than most others.
I am afraid of my loved ones expecting me to be "better" faster than I actually will be. I already feel a bit of pressure.
I have to have an end to this pain and nerve issues (both legs now) but I just don't know what I am getting into! :S
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. I haven't seen many ALIF's on here.
Thank you all for you knowledge and experience.
