Have had awful back pain since my first and only fusion surgery. My ortho kept telling me it was due to scar tissue, although 3 mri's all stated there was no significant scarring. I finally consulted with a group of neurosurgeons. Got a thin slice CT and just today was informed today that all 3 docs in the practice said I didn't fuse in the middle. Plus I have now developed major issues above L4-L5. L2 and L3 both have herniations. I am in shock! I guess at least I can now say that my excruciating pain after my first surgery wasn't "in my head."
So what next? Spend my life with basically a "broken" back? The neurosurgeons told me to use a rigid back brace for a month to help ascertain for sure if the pain source was indeed the pseudoarthrosis so that is where I am.
I am so discouraged. How could my original doc been so casual and never investigate my pain? 3 months after surgery he sent me to a pain doc. It's my pain doc who told me it would be a good idea to seek a second opinion.
Now what? Is this it? Anybody had a similiar experience?
Kathy (hard to keep my glass half-full now!)
