Increased pain post C1/C2 fusion

I am 4 months out from surgery (posterior C1/C2 fusion with wires and autograph) due to atlantoaxial facet osteoarthritis. I was gradually improving and had completed 12 visits to PT (I was the 'model' patient). I am a non-smoker, active, 37 years old, and believe my neck problems are due to a MVA with a logging truck 5 years ago. Anyway, about 6 weeks ago I started having increased pain. I have tried acupuncture, rest, ice, massage, etc. I had a CT scan and picked up the report (faxing it to my surgeon that did the surgery tomorrow) and it says "degenerative osteophytosis involving the odontoid".
Anyone out there have anything remotely similar? Any halp would be greatly appreciated....just hoping there is a treatment. I am too young for this....I just want to go backpacking and jogging again.
