I have been in a horrific pain spike for five days My entire neck is spasmed as solid as a rock, the base of my skull and entire back of my head feels like I have been hit with a hammer, and I feel like ice picks are jabbing at my eyes. I went to the ER and even intramuscular Atavan didn't relax the muscles. Today, my pain doctor prescribed a course of prednisone (to be taken over 6 days) in hopes that this will get the inflammation down. They think that I might have an infection or something and I am scheduled to have another MRI in a week.
Has anyone else been on prednisone for this type of post-surgical pain spike? And, if so, does it affect the results of your MRI? I want the MRI to really show what is going on and not be masked by the steroid. I just wish they could fix this. The pain has worn me down to nothing and I am losing all hope. Even when my ACDF failed I did not have this much pain. I don't know why the posterior revision has caused so many problems and I am worried there is some permanent muscle damage.
Sorry for the long post. Just hoping others can give feedback!
