Oxycontin question.........

Here is my current daily med intake. As needed I have a max daily does of 30 mg Roxicodone. In the morning I take 60 mg of Oxycontin. At lunch I take 30 mg of Oxy. Then at dinner 60 mg of Oxy. My question is that since my Oxy copayment is $40, that is $40 for the 60 mg and $40 extra for the 30 mg for a total of $80 monthly. I go back to my Doctor in 3 weeks and I was wondering if she would prescribe me just the 30 mg Oxy to save money? In the mornings and evenings I can double up on the 30's (will this be the same as taking one 60 mg)? I would go from two 60's and one 30 to five 30 mg pills daily. The Roxis will stay the same at four as neede daily. The Roxis are supposed to last six hours but not for me. Does anyone else have better luck with the Roxicodone lasting longer? I hope the two 30 mg Oxycontin taken together is just as effective as the one 60 mg Oxy? Thanks, Chad

  • The simple answer about 2 30 OC vs 1 60 OC is its the same. Also Roxicodone generally lasts 4-6hrs. You main obstacle may be your Doc not wanting to write a script for that many 30mg OC per day due to OC being an 8-12hr ER med. Some Docs are particular with how their paperwork scripts etc. may be scrutinized by the powers that be. My PM Doc will write a smaller dose for every 8hrs or a larger dose every 12hrs but will not mix different dosages on a script.
