Fusion of C5, C6, C7

I am new to this forum.

On Aug 18 I had surgery, removed the 2 ruptured discs, replaced with cadaver bones between C5, C6, & C7 for fusion, plate and screws holding it all together as well.

The question I have is my surgical 3 inch entry point is swelled out about 1 inch or less. Looks like a small golfball. Doctor has seen it twice and says not red or warm so not infected. He said my body will absorb it.
It has been 14 days tomorrow.

Has anyone else had anything like this - and how long does it take to go down. Is there something I can put on this to make body accept it faster?

I am returning to work NEXT Thur Sep 8 and would like this minumized somehow?

THANK YOU in advance for any suggestions.

  • i had similar on 12/9/2010. You seem to be going back to work very quickly. Don't push yourself. I did not have anything similar. My incision site was just slightly above the surface after the steri strips came off at 2 weeks. I would want that looked at and maybe drained or lanced to remove. I don't know what it would be so swollen. Sorry if I seem concerned. Are you using a soft collar. I wore one for almost 3 months. I wore a scarf around collar to dress it up as I am a teacher. Good luck
