Hi all,i'm new here and very pleased to have run across this site.Hope to meet some people with similiar problems and fustrations that go along with have a body that has failed. As ive read a few posts here and see this is a place of lots of support and advice.Let me tell you alittle bit abt myself quickly if thats possiable.im a 48 yr old female, married with a 16yr old daughter living in Canada with some fairly serious lower back problems.. I got hurt at work Oct of 2009, i work on a farm doing strawberry plants and flowers alot of lifting.. Felt major pain the day i got hurt and hasnt eased very much since..after several CT scans X-rays and MRI's my diagnosis is Bilateral spondylolysis of the pars interarticularis at L5-S1 with resultant grade 1 spondylolisthesis, dehydration of the disc at L5-S1.Dics space narrowing at L4-L5.Minimal dics space narrowing at L5-S1,small right paracentral dics protrusion at L4-L5.At L5-S1 diffuse bulging of the annulus fibrosis, more prominent centrally and to the right laterally which comes in contact with the exiting right L5 nerve root. Also a focal linear annular tear at the right side of the annulus at L5-S1. The examination of the sacroiliac joints demonstrates subchondral sclerosis of the mid portion of the anterior aspect of the SI joints, more prominent on the left, involving the illiac side. There is some minimal marrow edema at the site of the sclerosis..Bilateral sacroiliitis of SI joints worse on the left..slight erosion of right SI joint. That pretty much sums it up..im currently taking 300mg Celebrex,30mg Flexeril,8mg morophine, vit D,calcium...also have had spinal injections in right SI joint and into the Piriformis muscle which did nothing but knock me off my feet in agony for 2.5 wks so no more of them...been to a spine surgeon which decided not to operate for what reason im not sure...now im waiting for app. to see a Neuro surgeon and the circle begins again still in pain..still not working and very fustrated and they still dont know which is causing my pain..Thanks for letting me vent and i hope to make some new friends here that understand what im going thru God Bless and i hope you all have a low pain day

  • Spinning hamster, You can stop spinning now , you are in the right place.

Welcome and hope we can help. We have a few Canadians here ey, so you should be ok here. Unless you canadians start taking over then we might have some problems lol

Sometimes it can be frustrating to get the dr,s to agree on 1 thing on what to do ,
And because they know the complications that can hapen with surgery they usualy want to stay away from surgery. you are doing the right thing by pushing on to get another opinion from a neurosurgen.

    Good luck

I have a ortho ,neuro, a rheumo, reg doc and been thru hand full of pain mang. docs whom all just want give those nasty injections last one put me in er cause she took it upon herself to give me a little extra meds.
My neuro is puzzled after so many tests i still have no direct diagnosis for my leg pain and numbness in feet.

  • hi and welcome to the forum! we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. so glad you dropped in. good luck on your upcoming appointment.. i hope you hear good news! stop by the forum anytime! i hope you find pain relief soon!! Jenny :)
  • Hi spinning hamster, welcome to spine health! Glad that you joined us here. It has been a great place to come for support for myself.

I am glad to see that you are going for a second opinion. I am a fellow Canadian, and know that unfortunately, that can take some time. The wait for specialists is very long, so hope that you don't have too long to wait. I recieved 3 opinions before I had surgery, and that took over a year. Finally had dicectomies/lamis 2 months ago. Unfortunately I am not any better. So we start back at square one.

Have you tried a tens unit, or do heat/cold in combination with your meds bring you any relief?

Wishing you all the best. Look forward to hearing more from you.

Look out Alex, the Canadians are taking over Eh?

  • Yes!! i think i have found the right place..funny i was checking out the Neuro surgeon i'm going to see and stubbled across this site, must of been my lucky day :)Nice to see some fellow Canadians here as well.As you all well know sometimes you need some one to talk to that is experiencing the same things you are. From reading some of the posts and research i have done, i can honestly say im scared to death to see this Neuro surgeon, back surgery horrifies me of coming out in worse shape than im going in.To much stress and pain i feel trapped..WCB been fighting me every step of the way, since i got hurt at work, which that takes it toll on me and my family and wearing me down..anyhow enuff venting, and i look forward to chatting with you all soon.(eh) lol

    take care all Brenda

  • Welcome to Spine-Health. You'll find a lot of great info throughout the site and the members of the forum, as you're finding out, are very helpful, knowledgeable and supportive.

I'm glad you are going to get another opinion. I'm hoping that this one is fellowship-trained and only works on spines. You need some answers and hopefully you'll find the right doctor for you. You'll know it when you find it.

Keep us posted on your progress with both finding a good surgeon and how you're feeling. Once you infiltrate the forum, we need to know! LOL

Take care and hope to see you post again soon.
