tumour on C2

Wondering if anyone had any knowledge of surgery options for a C2 tumour. I have a lesion in relation to the right aspect of the lamina and facet area affecting C2, encroaching into the spinal canal but not causing compression of the cord.
Surgery is planned and "would involve fixing the occiput to the cervical spine with no motion possible at the cranio cervical junction and the upper cervical spine".
A couple of questions:
1. Surgeon advises no option other than fixing in the way described with consequent loss of movement. I am wondering if there is anyone with experience of this type of operation and whether any alternatives were offered to them.
2. I don't really appreciate yet the loss of movement entailed by the planned operation and the consequences for day to day life eg driving. Does anyone know of any documentation/articles/video that could help me?

  • Sorry I can not help you with information on C2 tumor or alternative surgeries, but I will advise that you seek out other surgeons for their opinions. I met with 3 different surgeons who agreed on the type of surgery required for my case.

Good luck and do as much research on your own to educate yourself! :)
