Surgery or Therapy?

I am going to see a chiropractor and a spine surgeon and I'm sure will have differing opinions for treatment. Anyone here have a similar situation/injury? I would greatly appreciate opinions and/or stories of how you may have went about treatment.

  • I can't read x-rays or MRI but do not go to the Chiropractor for adjustments and please see the Spine Surgeon. Not saying this is what you have but when I had a herniated disc in my back and I do have impinging nerve in my C6-C7 my Chiropractor will not touch me except for ultrasound or inferential machine treatments. You need to see the Spine Surgeon to see what he says first.

Do you have any symptoms in your arm or hand or just the neck pain? I hope you're seeing your Dr. soon. Take care. Charry
DDD of lumbar spine with sciatica to left hip,leg and foot. L4-L5 posterior disc bulge with prominent facets, L5-S1 prominent facets with a posterior osteocartilaginous bar. Mild bilateral foraminal narrowing c-spine c4-c7 RN
  • Before you go to a chiropractor see a Neurosurgeon. Get his/her opinion. Then see a psytrist. That doctor will coordinate your treatments.

Is that your c4-5 that is herniated?

Another surgery in the near future. I am 26 years old.

Current Meds- Norco 7.5/325, Cymbalta 60mg, Gabapentin, Adderall 20mg

  • I agree that it would be better to have a neuro/ortho specialist evaluate your neck before seeing a chiropractor.

I have been told that I have 2 discs compressing my cord and that I should NOT see a chiropractor as there would be risk to my spinal cord.

Please do let us know how you get on.

Before making any commitment to a chiropractor please see a nuero for his opinion first. My neuro has always told me if anyone tries to adjust my neck to run!!!
  • Thank you all for your responses. Its been tough because my peers nor anyone I know can relate or even fathom how scary this situation is.

Charry - The only symptoms I have are pins/needles on my left hand from pinky to middle finger. My left leg seems kind of weaker and my balance is horrible.

    Donnabe - Yes, exactly C4-C5

I have PPO insurance and I'm currently searching and reviewing neuro/ortho surgeons in my area. Thank you all again!
