I'm really struggling to cope at the moment I have now found out i have a 2-6month wait before I can get any help or diagnosis. I'm finding it really hard that no one around me understands what I am going thru and I am struggling that now my family always have some easy answer to explain away my illnesses. for example this weekend I was at my partners family gathering and his cousin ran out towards a busy road so with out thinking i picked him up a few minutes later I started to feel really dizzy and like i was going to throw up and my head was pounding with really bad pain in the back of my head. Next day I asked my mum if we could look into private health care and I explained to her my situation and her response was well you shouldn't have picked him up and my sisters was that happens to me if i bend down fast. I was so frustrated I tried to explain that its not normal to have that happen but they always explain it away.

  • Hi Chattle,
I'm sorry you are struggling so bad, and family just doesn't understand. That has happened to me as well. So have you been to your family doctor? What does he/she think? Have they had you do any tests? What kind of doctor have you been referred to? Do you have an appointment, I know you mentioned 6 months. Ask them to put you on a cancel list and then hound them tell them how you need some help. I found though generally going into a specialist appointment, I knew what they were going to diagnose , because I had all my pretests done.... it has to be or you will be waiting even longer. This is my thoughts from my own experience. I wish you well, and i hope you find some good help. What about pool therapy or physical therapy before you go , just to strengthen yourself. Truly best wishes :)
  • Sounds like the thing I have been through with my family. Part of it in my case with family is they are "self centered", it is about "their life" not mine.

Also, if they acknowledge these problems maybe they would be afraid of being financially responsible. In my case I see it as a case of a lack of total love.

I have had to learn to rely on my faith in God, my communication with him and with some friends for moral support.

What I would do if I was you, is look for a Charity Hospital. Many of the Catholic Hospitals will take you if you do not have insurance. Just go to the emergency room. Some have better attitudes and staff than others.

If you need a referral for testing, look for a sliding scale fee medical clinic in your area. Ask around at other medical offices, the Food Stamp/Medicaid office, the local hospitals, or see if their is a "Catholic Charities" in your phonebook.

In your phonebook, in the yellow pages, look up "Social Services". This is a start. If you can get some type of medical records showing you have a problem that needs care, and you financially qualify, you may be able to get Medicaid in your state. Don't fail to talk to the hospital social workers. They may know of resources or be able to help.

I am praying for you. Please pray for me, as I am struggling also. Because I do not have good health insurance (though the family could afford to help me with that and won't) it is difficult to get the type of coordinated care I need between medical professionals. Everything I am trying to do is at best a la carte, and that isn't good when you need specific and carefully planned diagnostics and care.
  • I understand what you are going though.
I have no medical insurance and nobody wants to help me.
I have started calling my elected representatives, who all by the way, have plenty of health insurance.
