Steroid Injection And Osteoporosis

If a person has Osteoporosis is it wise to have a steroid injected in the disc or tendon of the back? I thought steroids were a bad idea and can lead to worsening of Osteoporosis especially for someone like me in their 60's? Dr. seems to think because they are "targeting" a certain area it won't cause bone loss .

  • I can't comment on what your doctor is saying, but when I was under a pain specialist for a couple of years, he would only give me a couple of injections per year, and then no more and recommended surgery.

I have osteoporosis and in my sixties too. Are you on medication for osteoporosis? I was, just before and for a few months after my surgery, but it upset my tummy. I take the maximum complete calcium supplement and extra magnesium every day. If you're doing something similar, you may be ok with a steroid injection.
