I had neck surgey on June 4,2011 and woke up with really bad right arm weakness. I have been doing PT now for 30 visits and have got around 60% of my arm back. The bad thing is around a week ago I started to have some pain in between my shoulder blades. It felt like a muscle was knotted up. I told the PT about it and she said that the muscles at my shoulder blade was working over time because of my arm being weak. The pain got so bad that I went to my family doctor and he gave me a shot of cortizone on a trigger point in my back. Now my right arm is alot weaker than before. It feels like it dropped to around 25% use and I cant do what I did before. My question is did I mess up getting the shot. It seems to help with the pain but I took a step back with the arm weakness.
Thanks for you replies,

  • I'd call your doctor or surgeon. It could be that since your shoulder was working overtime to compensate for your arm, when your shoulder relaxed you could notice again your arm strength. Be patient and cut yourself a break and take things a little at a time.

  • Thanks Karen for your reply.I just didnt know if it was caused by having the shot or not.I been really depressed lately with the weakness in my arm because it had got to a point and hasnt got any better and now this has happened. Still trying to be strong.
    Thanks again,
