37 y.o. male with no major health problems other than high blood pressure. Symptoms include pain in neck that travels down both arms and into hands. Mild tingling that feels like something is crawling on me. Burning sensations as well. Deep stabbing pains that always seem to catch me off guard. I never know what I will get from one day to the next. Some days I want to cancel the surgery and other days I want to move the surgery date up.

C5-6 Right foramen stenosis secondary to uncovertebral hypertrophy with loss of CSF in the root sleeve. Left foramen shows moderate compromise by osteophyte with spinal fluid still in the root sleeve.

C6-7 Disc osteophyte complex broadly with foramen stenosis bilateral related to uncovertebral hypertrophy.

  • Lanway....

First off, Welcome to Spine-Health!! I've had 2 ACDF's and too I was scared for them both. I found (and others here will tell you) that our "pre-surgery" fears and anxiety are more than needed as you will see. I know on my first one, it was sooooo great to wake up with NO pain radiating down my arms. I actually had "happy tears" realizing that.

Hopefully you too will find happy tears when you wake up. Please let us know how it goes. Wishing you positive energy and good thoughts. Again, Welcome aboard!!!!

    PCTF C4 - T2, Laminectomies C5, C6 & C7. Severe Palsy left arm/hand.
  • Thank you Brenda for your kind words and encouragement. I have been reading these message boards for a couple weeks and have found them immensely helpful in easing my fears. The personal experiences other posters have shared are alot more informative than anything a surgeon could convey about the outcomes of these types of procedures. I will admit that some of the personal experiences scare the hell out of me but I realize surgical outcomes vary from person to person.

Both the Ortho and Neurosurgeon have been relatively straightforward with me. The Neurosurgeon was skeptical about recommending surgery based on my MRI but he quickly changed his tune after the results of my Myelogram CT came back. He still thinks my symptoms are mild. I just think surgeons are bored with routine issues. He kept fishing for something more spectacular like pain in the legs or foot drop. Anyhow, that's where I'm at and am hopeful that the NS hits a home run with my surgery.
