It all started when i had my son and broke my L5. An xray showed the spinal stenosis an i am waiting to see a spine specialist and see what exactly is going on. I am wanting to connect with others who have spinal stenosis. Anyone around my age going thru this? It seems like mostly people are at least in their 40s

  • I was 22 or so when I had my first Xray. Took until I was 45 to get diagnosed and now I have severe Stenosis, but I can still walk.

I am 50 now - I would suugest that keeping a great attitude of "keeping on going, no matter what!" will help you keep things going.

I am slower now - been that way for a couple of years, But I have a work ethic of always working, even slowly.

    Do take care!
  • Hi,

Sorry to hear about your mishap. I have spinal stenosis as confirmed by my MRI and symptoms vary... it can be anywhere from very mild to extremely serious with all kinds of weird side effects. My symptoms of stenosis is what led me to seek help. I have had DDD for 10-15 years causing moderate discomfort, but something I could live with. When I began having numbness and shocking pains in my legs, that's when I began to worry. I am scheduled for a 2 level posterior lumbar interbody fusion & fixation including a discectomy and laminectomy on L4-L5-S1 on 10/21/1. I go in for my presurgical testing & back brace fitting in a couple days (10/14/11). I have severe narrowing of the neural foramina and have 2 vertabral discs that are disintegrated causing vertabrae to collapse onto each other.
Let me know if I can answer any questions, I will try to give some advice. Good luck and I hope you can find the answers you need on Spine-Health.
