Why does it come and go?

In my case, I'll have unbearable pain for 24/7 sometimes weeks at a time. The pain will suddenly disappear without any change of routine or intervention in any way. Other times I will be pain free 19 hours of the day and it will suddenly come on without any cause. Other times I've been completely pain free for up to two weeks and it feels like heaven to me, only for it to suddenly return.

Things that have no apparent effect.

-Stretching or yoga really does nothing for me.
-Tai Chi seems to help dissipate the stress I feel directly related to the pain but does nothing for the pain itself.
-Anti-inflammatories do nothing for me
-Jogging and regular exercise seems to do nothing to either exacerbate or diminish the pain.

I can't understand why it comes and goes.


  • Nerves in the spine can act in many diferent ways as my dr said,, Pain can come and go. It can migrate to diferent areas of your spine legs. It can go from 1 leg to both legs and so on.

    This is why spine is so complex and many times they cant even figure out the cause, Have you seen a dr and had mri or ct scan?

    Sometimes that is the nature , the nature of the Beast.
    For a long time, I have been talking about chronic pain as being the beast.

    There are times when the beast is content, quiet and not really causing a lot of problems. Then there are times when the beast comes roaring out, full revenge and causing lots of pain.

    Sure, there are times and things you can identify when you did something that might cause more pain, but then there are so many other times when it all doesnt make any sense.

    Over the years, I've come to understand this, but I am still trying to figure out this beast. Its just part of the nature of long term chronic pain.

    The best plan is to understand this and work on ways to minimize your pain and discomfort.

  • It's strange because sometimes I will get unbearable pain laying down, but other times laying down is the only thing that relieve the pain.

    Likewise, exercise/walking will sometimes alleviate the pain, while other times it causes the pain to become much worse. I can't really find any pattern to any of it. Some days (rarely) I am pain free and it feels like heaven to me. When the pain flairs up it makes me feel like I'm going completely crazy. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
