Hey everyone, im just on this as a sort of desperate plea for some help that im not getting here in Ireland. On monday i was training Rugby and a 6 ft 3" 16 stone freind of mine fell onto my back. im only 5 ft 2":). Anyway i heard a snap and a pain in my back. i found it difficult to breathe and was on the ground for a good 10 minutes. Pain was pretty bad, however with help i could stand and walk but the pain was pretty bad in my back. I went straight to Kilkenny A+E where they did 2 x-Rays. The doctor their showed me 3 places on the x ray where he belived i had chiped the bone. He refered me to the consultant and i saw him yesterday. He then looked at my x-Ray and believed that in fact i may have 6 spinal compression fractures on my vertabraes T5 to T8. he said all this with a genuine concerned look on his face, saying he wanted a CT scan to check how bad. I was then sent to another hospital Waterford for the scan. when got there i found out that nothing had been arranged and that i had to go through the system in waterford A+E in waterford. X-Rays and questions again that i had already been asked in Kilkenny. Then they sent me for the scan my consultant ordered. After hours of waiting, the doctor that was taking charge in A+E.came and rudely told me that everything was ok. that there was no obvious fracture apart from an old one. And that i had a developed a curve in my spine through ostioprosis (Sorry about the spelling). I found this totally unacceptable that she said the main cause of the pain was due to ligament damage and bruising. I heard the god damn thing snap for God's sake. In a differant hospital they told me i had chipped 3 bones where the doctor pointed out to me the injury. My consultant thought i had 6 fractures and was sending me for a scan to check on the severity of the damage. And then in waterford im told i have nothing wrong. only bruiseing!. I am now very confused at what to do..my pain was very bad for about four days after the incident. but now is slowly easing, 6 days after the incident. however certain movements. especially getting up and sitting down cause great pain. Especially on the bone T6 where if i apply pressure on the bone i feel pain.
Please if anyone has any expieriance of this type of Injury and reading this your help would be much appreciated. ive basically been told 3 differant things from more or less 3 seperate parties. and im very worried about what to do. How can one hospital and a consultant tell me i have damage done and another turn around to me and say that i have only bruising. please iv seen the X-Rays, i heard the snap, people that were near me when the accident occured heard the snap. On two occasions i have felt the Bone moving when people examine the sore area of my back!.
Please if anyone has had this injury or any knowledge of it your help would be most invaluble as i am confused and hounestly quite scared about what to do next.

  • I hope you have had a consult with a Orthopedic or Neurosurgeon by now and bring your CD of your CT scan to the new Surgeon and get his opinion. I hope you're getting some Physiotherapy or have seen a Spine Specialist by now. Take care. Charry
