Hi Everybody,
Today was my first day home from my ALIF. whew it's nice to be here.

Surgery went great, but post surgery there were some bumps. my pain is still quite bad, but getting better every day.

My night nurse, the first day after my surgery gave me a med i was allergic to, and while doing so blew out my IV, and they couldn't get a fresh line in me for nearly 5 hours, so those 5 hours were really really awful. I used tools from my meditation practice as well as prayer to get through it, but it was really terrible. i have never been in pain like that, and was pricked 7 times before somebody could finally get a line in.

But I'm here now, and on the road to healing.

Thank you so much for all your prayers. :-)

  • Glad to hear that you are home now, welcome to the other side. It must feel great, especially after having your surgery cancelled at the last minute, to have it done and over with.

Yikes, about them having trouble with the meds and the line, good for you for using meditation and prayer to get through it.

Hope that your pain levels are decreasing and you are staying ahead of it with medication, and frequent short walks. You have all of our support here. Wishing you a smooth recovery with solid fusion.

  • I am glad things went well, and you are home :) You are just beginning, and I am almost a month ahead of you :) We can share stories.
I am sorry about the IV, I would have told them to knock me out before I did it to them, lol.

    How is it going?
  • I am sorry to hear about your complications in the hospital. They did not have any pain pumps available in the entire hospital when i woke up from surgery. It took about thirty minutes or so to locate one. That was terrible so i can only imagine what you went threw. I hope your recovery goes great from hear on out.
  • My back and incision sites are very painful, and actually today I think I felt some swelling around my incision. When my husband gets home I will ask him to look at it.

I have been in quite a lot of pain, post surgery, but it is all surgical pain, different from my pre surgical pain.

Thanks for asking, Heidi, I have been following your progress.

How are you feeling these days?
  • It's always nice to be back home and in your own bed, which I'm sure is more comfortable than the hospital ones. When I got home, just to be able to stretch out was so good.

The surgical pain isn't too good - perhaps you might need to have your meds reviewed? For me, with the pain meds, it was more like a huge ache where I couldn't get comfortable and so I had to keep moving.

Hope the swelling isn't anything serious.
