I had a diskectomy on Oct 20th. I am still having problems with urinating and bowel movements. I am not sure if anyone else has had problems like this and what was done to correct it. I have been taking steroids but do not seem to be helping with this.

  • Welcome to spine health. Did you have problems before surgery with urinating and bowel movements ?
  • Have you spoken to the doctor?
I would suggest you make sure they know what is going on. You are at your 2 week mark so you should start seeing some improvement...but if you are not, bring the concern to your doctor.

Most will re-MRI at about 3 month mark but if you are having significant issues, they might want to do an MRI at about 5 weeks to be sure you didn't re-herniate.

But definitely let your doctor know the steroids are not helping.
  • i had a discography myself about 8 months ago {in preparation for my ALIF } and i have had more problems with toileting too.and where they put the needle in .the pain has not gone away .my main problem is peeing .i feel like i need to go but it can take up to 4/8 minutes to get started! {i am 45} i asked about other problems that it could be to m y doctor and he thinks it my spine and nothing else.
