Please help me out. I have posted before with little response and I am sure some of you out there have had these symptoms. I have shooting, throbbing electric shocks from below my knee to the tips of my toes. In addition, this same area is warm to the touch in the am and gets increasingly hotter as the day progresses. By nighttime it is considerably painful and very hot, like fever in my shins-toes. I have gotten no relief from the nerve pain and the heat has me truly stumped. In the past, I have taken lyrica and neurontin and am currently on Cymbalta. I do not want to take lyrica or neurontin again because it provided little help and I did not like the side effects. The pain/heat is bilateral which suggests that it's cause is from my lower spine. ( had L4-S1 ALIF with cages and posterior rods, screws and bolts in July, 2011). I had none of the electric/ heat stuff going on prior to surgery. The hot legs started two months ago, 2months after surgery.
Are the screws pressing on a nerve?? Any ideas as to what may be the cause of these symptoms?? I am stumped and would love some plausible explanations. I am seeing my surgeon in one week, but, I figure my spine-health buddies would come up with some creative ideas/suggestions as to what is the cause. From my research, I have come up with that I might have peroneal mono-neuropathy (with no drop foot). I just want to be proactive early on, because the thought of having to have permanent nerve damage scares the sh-t out of me. Have been through too much to end up with permanent nerve problems.
Please send me all your best ideas. And please don't be shy. Any and all responses will be taken seriously and greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for helping me understand what I am experiencing. You are a great bunch!!!
