I posted earlier that I am scheduled to have ACDF on Dec. 15th, C5-C6-C7.
Truth is - I am not comfortable with having surgery at all.
Yesterday my EMG and nerve conduction studies all appeared to be "good." I have neck pain nearly every day, but there is nothing that says an ACDF is going to make the neck pain go away. I have maybe once a week tingling in my fingers, but never unbearable. Bottom line - I am not feeling like this is the "last resort." That's my issue.
The 3 surgeons I consulted with all recommend surgery. My PT recommends surgery. Most of all b/c of the MRI pics. I have to admit it's quite scary to look at -- my stenosis is severe at C5-C6 and moderately severe at C6-C7. The visual of the cord compression at C5-C6 and C6-C7 is scary, and that is what the surgery recommendations have been based on.
Looking for insight from anyone - encouraging or discouraging surgery. I know no one can give medical advice, I am more looking along the lines of "are you nuts? I would never have surgery unless I couldn't move!" or "are you nuts? your spine is at major risk and is not going to get any better."
Any insights welcome.
