that is what my mri showed according to my neurologist. what is there i can do for the pain from this. I have pain down my right leg and my right side of my back. I haven't been able to sit in one place or lay down even with pillow under my legs. My neurologist wants to do an emg. I don't think I am going to be able to make it through an hour test with all this pain i am in as everyone tells me the test really hurts. I don't need anymore pain than i am already in. I don't want to play games for the next 6 months lets try this that and the other. I would love to be painfree i been in pain for almost 3 months now and I about had enough.

Does anyone have any good ideas or suggestions for me of how to deal with the pain. The neurologist put me on skelaxin muscle relaxer and diclofenac for pain and they don't seem to be helping. I have tried laying on the heating pad that doesn't help me much either. Also the fact that i am not sleeping is making turn into a nasty person as 2hrs of sleep a night just isn't enough. Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Hi and welcome,, I dont mean to sound rude but do you realy believe that what the dr needs from you such as an emg and other tests he needs to perform is a waste of time?

None of us want to just try this and that as you say about your dr when he needs to further look in to our condition but we have no choice in the mater,

Most try all the alternative measures before going to the dr, Once you realise its time to see a dr to get help because you cant deal with it on your own then you already have to comit to leting the dr fisnish his findings by doing whatever test is needed,

Emg is realy not a big deal for starters and anyone who is in serious pain should not have an issue doing the test, The testing dont take 1 hour because i had more emg then i can count,

These testings are not a game as you refer to it because if your condition dont improve on its own then this tool will be used to find the source of your problem,

If we knew how to avoid these tests and get beter on our own then we would not be here ourself, Nobody wants to be in pain and there is never a simple fix to most of the more serious spine conditions, If it dont heal on its own somerimes we left with having to giive in to surgery which none of us want to deal wirh but have no choice, and somerimes suffer for a lifetime when surgery fails,

So as you were saying what now about not having time to play games finding out what causing your pain?

Best of luck and hope you take your spine issue very serious for it affected many lives here, And that aint no game i assure you,

    Good luck,

  • alex you took what i said the wrong way. down here it takes forever to get in with a specialist it took me 2 months to get in with the neurologist. I am going to have the tests done everyone just tells me its painful.

I myself am in a lot of pain I don't want to become a real bitch to anyone but i amnot here playing games. I want to get the pain figured out and taken care of.

I been up since 230am and am very tired. I am shaking from the pain too and lost my appetite which isn't good.

  • Sorry about the pain. It can be frustraring for sure, The emg is realy not very painfull as some people say. Sure you get zapped but its for a short time,

So dont let the test scare ya, Geting in to a pain specialist is probably your best bet to get pain under control, posibly injection, I know thats the only thing that helps me even 8 years after 3 surgery that failed,

Avoid surgery if posible but if they say its a must then not much you can do but cross your fingers and hope for the best, Good luck,

  • My Dr. ordered nerve pain meds like Lyrica and Cymbalta and tried Amitriptyline first as those meds would help with the sciatica pain. My Dr. referred me to a Pain Management Dr. after I saw an Orthopedic Surgeon after my EMG test.

I found a good Physiatrist(Sports Rehab. Dr.) who's also helping with ordering tests and helping with pain management. Let your Dr. know you're having pain if those other meds aren't helping and hope you find some relief soon. Take care. Charry
