Hello- I am 37 years old. I have had several frustrating experiences over the years. I have a t-2 t-3 herniation t-7 t-8 herniation t9-t10 herniation l4-5 bulging disc and an l5-s1 annular tear. Pain management told me none of these issues would cause the type of pain I am in. Burning upper back pain between shoulder blades, buning and peircing into my ribs middle back, pain in my hips and occasionaly an ER Visit because it feels like I am being caddle prodded in my butt. They released me from pain mangement after three physical therapy trips and one injection in the low back. No relief from pain, I have NSAIDs coming out my ears no relief. PCP tries helping but again NSAIDs and not really much advice.

Where should I go? What should I do? How do I go about getting this treated? Who will listen

  • Go see a neurosurgeon or orthopedic surgeon. Get a referral from your primary doc.
  • Spine specialist works along with pain specialist usualy to find where pain is coming from even if its multiple symptoms. Everything that shows on mri dont always mean its pain generator.

See a good spine specialist and he will ask for you pain dr to see if he can find what levels pain is coming from and then they can make a plant on what to do,

I refused to go to pain specialist for years because at the time i was not aware how they work together to find the problem,,

    Good luck

  • After many, many doctors and other specialists we finally found our best help in a facility specializing in spinal issues. It housed a variety of different types of doctors and interventions (surgeons, physical therapists, physiatrists, nutritionists, etc.) and they can all communicate and work together to find answers and make suggestions. It was GREAT to finally find a place that really, really understood spinal issues & the doctor was so much more knowledgeable than the general orthopedic doctors we had previously seen. Best of luck!!!
  • Thanks for all the information. I have been suffering with these issues since a lifting injury in 1998 and I got hit by a drunk driver in 2004. I have been told over and over these injuries get better but year after year I get worse. Each year I add a new herniation or more degeneration. I just haven't found anyone willing to work with me and it is frustrating. It is nice to see I am not alone and that there are thousands just on this board going through the same things. I have an appoinment on Dec 22 with a neurologist so hopefully he will help me. I can't believe no one has ever offered me anything for pain except NSAIDS and I am to afraid to ask. Is that what you have to do is ask? It has been way to long, I am not giving up but it would be nice to get some relief and some help.

Thanks all again and Happy Thanksgiving!
